Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Thursday 7.30pm - 8.45pm
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is fun, energetic sport to learn. It focuses on a strong ground game, where the objective is to lock or submit your opponent without strikes. BJJ teaches you to control yourself in a tense situation, and also to manipulate your opponents balance to give yourself a better position.
Made famous by the Gracie family, BJJ made its ‘debut’ during UFC 1, where it showcased how effective the sport was, even against strikers. BJJ is one of the toughest sports in the world to learn, but certainly one of the most rewarding. Purcell Dojos regularly has multiple black belts coming to give their knowledge and understanding, building on a strong foundation in the club.
If martial arts were board games, Muay Thai would be Checkers, while BJJ would be Chess – slow, methodical and every move literally opens up hundreds of other options.
